The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the German Building Energy Act (GEG) are reshaping electrical planning — from solar mandates to building automation.
Solar mandate from 2026
Non-residential new builds > 250 m² will require a PV system from end of 2026 EU-wide. Several German federal states already have their own solar mandates.
EPBD Art. 10 — from 31 Dec 2026
Heating replacement
The 65% renewable obligation is tied to municipal heat planning — and currently in legislative flux due to the GModG reform 2026.
GEG §71 — major cities from Nov 2026
Building Automation BACS
Non-residential buildings > 290 kW already need a Building Automation & Control System. From 2030 the threshold drops to 70 kW.
EPBD Art. 13 — Stage 2 from 31 Dec 2029
